Brick is a German sci-fi thriller film that hit Netflix on July 10, 2025. Directed by Philip Koch (Tribes of Europa, Picco), the movie follows the story of a couple who suddenly find themselves sealed in inside their apartment building and must work with their their neighbors to break out of it.
Matthias Schweighöfer and Ruby O. Fee respectively appear as Tim and Olivia, the couple at the center of this gripping story. Frederick Lau, Salber Lee Williams, Murathan Muslu, Axel Werner and Sira-Anna Faal appear as Tim and Olivia's neighbors.
Matthias Schweighöfer appeas as Tim Arnovsky, a video game developer who has an emotional shutdown after losing his child to a miscarriage that his partner had. When everyone in his apartment building find themselves trapped in by a mysterious brick wall, Tim becomes their de facto leader.
Schweighöfer is widely known for playing Lieutenant Franz Herber in the historical thriller Valkyrie. He appeared in Netflix's Army of the Dead and reprised his role in the prequel which he also directed. In Chistopher Nolan's Oscar-winning film Oppenheimer, Schweighöfer played the German theoretical physicist Werner Heisenberg.
Ruby O. Fee plays Olivia Neill, Tim's partner. Olivia is an architect who opens the door one day and sees a brick wall outside the door. She tries to save her relationship with Tim, while the duo also try their best to break through the wall.
Fee has previously worked with Schweighöfer in Army of the Dead prequel, Army of the Thieves. Fee first gained recognition in the German film industry when she was cast Sophie Kellermann in the TV series Allein gegen die Zeit. She has since worked with actors like Eva Green, Mads Mikkelsen and Matt Smith.
Murathan Muslu appears as Yuri, one of Tim and Olivia's neighbors who claims to be a police man. As the story progresses, it becomes obvious that Yuri is a paranoid conspiracy theorist who believes that the brick wall is protecting them from something dangerous inside or outside the apartment building.
Muslu is an Austrian-Turkish actor who began his career as a musician and even earned a nomination the Austrian Amadeus Music Award as a member of the hip-hop group Sua Kaan. Since his switch to acting in 2011, he has appeared in projects like 7500 and Hinterland.
Frederick Lau plays the role of Marvin, another one of Tim and Olivia's neighbors. He and his partner Ana are AirBnB guests in the building. They are drug users and after dicovering the brick wall in front of their apartment, they begin to panic and take even more drugs.
Lau is a German actor who won the German Film Award, also known as Lola, for his performance in 2008's Die Welle (The Wave). He has also appeared in the critically acclaimed film, Victoria, and other movies such as Rising High and Commitment Phobia.

With an eerie plot and an all-star German cast, Brick is the latest psychological thriller to be released on Netflix after its world premiere at the Munich International Film Festival. The official logline of the movie reads:
"Tim and Olivia awake trapped in their apartment behind an impenetrable, futuristic wall which has materialized overnight… and they are not alone. The entire building and its residents seem to be enclosed. What happened overnight? Who built that wall and why? Without any chance of outside help, they must band together to find a way out. Can they solve the mystery of the wall in time and survive?"
