A rumor that Andy Byron is reportedly suing Coldplay is going viral on social media. On July 22, 2025, Page Six first asked attorney Camron Dowlatshahi from the Los Angeles law firm MSD Lawyers if it was possible for the former Astronomer CEO to sue the popular band.

The attorney told the media outlet that Byron could file a defamation lawsuit. However, he would have to prove that there wasn't any affair between him and Kristin Cabot. He would also have to prove that Chris Martin planned the kiss cam moment "out of malice" and had known that there was no affair.

Camron Dowlatshahi then said that it would be "frivolous" to sue Coldplay as none of the requirements would be met. He also doubted Andy Byron would try to sue the musicians or the event organizers after the online backlash he received.

"If we are getting creative, a possible claim would be for defamation, specifically as it relates to Chris Martin characterizing the two as having an 'affair'... None of those elements will be met, so any claim against Coldplay would be frivolous. I also very much doubt that Mr. Byron would want further public scrutiny by bringing a borderline frivolous suit against the event organizers and/or Coldplay," Dowlatshahi said.

The rumor that Andy Byron is reportedly suing Coldplay originated on Facebook, where content creator Maxim Bady claimed the news on July 26. Maxim cited Yahoo News and stated that Byron was allegedly preparing legal documents. The post went viral with nearly 120,000 reactions and 25,000 comments.

Yahoo News has republished articles from different media outlets. Those articles were about legal experts speculating whether Byron could sue Coldplay or not, and if he did, what the legal consequences would be.

Yahoo News never reported that the former Astronomer CEO was preparing documents. Maxim Bady's viral Facebook post is false.

There have not been any official reports of Andy Byron suing Coldplay

Following the kiss cam scandal on July 16, both Andy Byron and Kristin Cabot have resigned from Astronomer. It is unclear what they are planning for their next career step.

Although the rumors of Byron filing a lawsuit are spreading, neither he nor his representative has made any official statement.

The Mirror US asked attorney Rom Zambrano from West Coast Employment Lawyers if Byron could sue the band in the future.

Zambrano stated that he has "no grounds" to do so, as Coldplay has the artistic rights to have a kiss cam segment in their show.

"Any legal claims from Byron would be dead on arrival. He has no grounds to sue. First, it would immediately be struck down as a restriction on creative speech and Coldplay's ability to be artistic during their performances," the attorney said.

Zambrano continued, saying that Andy Byron and Cabot's hugging at the public event was "on them," and the band cannot be blamed for their actions.

"Second, Byron and Cabot waived their right to privacy when they decided to attend a public event, so their public display of affection is on them, not on Coldplay. They just got caught," Zambrano said.

Andy Byron was caught hugging Astronomer's then-head of HR, Kristin Cabot, in Coldplay's July 16 concert at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The two were seen on the kiss cam and went viral for hiding.
