Charlize Theron appeared on the May 8 episode of the late-night show Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote her upcoming movie, The Old Guard 2. The actress told Kimmel that her two daughters, Jackson and August, are not impressed with her decades-long acting career. Theron jokingly remarked that the two don't respect her despite winning an Oscar.

"My children have zero respect for me. It's just unbelievable, I feel like I'm pretty humble, but every once in a while I'm like, 'There's a f**king Oscar right there.' They are so not impressed with me," the actress stated.

Theron told Jimmy Kimmel she felt great after doing a helicopter stunt in The Old Guard 2 by herself. Then her younger daughter, August, saw Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning's poster and told the actress that Tom Cruise looked cooler than her.

"We took like two weeks to shoot this sequence and I was like, 'Wow, I just did that, that's really amazing.' And my child yesterday just looked at this poster of Tom Cruise and went, 'It's weird, he looks so much cooler than you did when you were hanging off the helicopter.' I was just like, 'I hung off the helicopter, [can I have] some credit?'" Theron said.

More details on Charlize Theron's two daughters

In 2012, Charlize Theron adopted her daughter Jackson; in 2015, she adopted August. In April 2018, the actress sat down for an interview with Elle Magazine; she stated that growing up in South Africa, she saw many orphanages.

When Theron told her mother that she would adopt a child, her mother showed her a letter she had written as a kid, in which she asked for a sibling and asked if they could get one from an orphanage. She then told the media outlet that while she respects it when some people say they can't raise nonbiological kids, she doesn't see a difference.

"I was always aware that there are so many children in this world who don't have families. Adoption is a very personal thing. I know people whom I love dearly who don't feel that they could raise another child as their own. I respect that... I never saw a difference in raising an adopted child versus my own biological child. I don't feel like I'm missing out on something," the actress said.

Charlize Theron then claimed that she always felt strongly about adoption, calling it her "first choice." In relationships, she made it clear that she would adopt children.

"This was always my first choice, even when I was in a relationship. I was very honest with my partners that I was open to having my own biological kids, but that adoption had to be a part of my life. I felt that strongly about it," Theron said.

Charlize Theron then stated that she wants her two Black daughters to be proud of their identity.

"They need to know where they come from and be proud of that. But they're going to have to know that it's a different climate for them than it is for me, and how unfair that is," the actress said.

Charlize Theron's upcoming film, The Old Guard 2, will be released on July 2, 2025.
