Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson revealed he once knocked on Bradley Cooper's door at midnight upon Brooke Shields' insistence. During a recent episode of his Dinner’s On Me podcast, the actor discussed his surprise late-night visit with guest Patricia Clarkson.
Ferguson explained he was hanging out with Shields at her New York City home when the latter suggested checking up on her neighbor, Cooper. Noting that he was initially apprehensive, as he "didn't know" the Oscar-nominated actor "very well," as well as the late hour. However, he "somehow got convinced" and ended up knocking on his back door.
The podcast host continued:
"He couldn't have been kinder. He seemed happy to see us. I was like, ‘I’m so sorry.’"
Ferguson recalled the A-Team actor was watching one of the late-night shows like Saturday Night Live. He added that Cooper was a "lovely human being."
During the podcast episode, Jesse Tyler Ferguson told Patricia Clarkson that Brooke Shields' and Bradley Cooper's homes share a wall. As a result, the pair were close friends, noted Jesse, adding:
"(Cooper) would come over and they would have coffee in their kitchen every morning."
Detailing the incident, he explained it occurred during his visit, while Shields was showing him her house. When they were in her kitchen, the Blue Lagoon actress suddenly became curious about her next-door neighbor. Ferguson told guest Patricia Clarkson:
"Anyway, she's showing me her house and I'm in her kitchen and it's like midnight. And Brooke is like, ‘I wonder if Bradley's awake.’"
The podcast host quipped that she naturally had to see for herself, noting she peeked "her head around the corner of her backyard." When Shields figured Cooper was awake and watching TV, she wanted to "go knock on his window."
Ferguson also recalled Bradley Cooper's dog "going crazy" when he knocked on the latter's back door. This prompted Clarkson to cheekily comment:
"And that’s not a metaphor!"
The host quipped back:
"No, no, exactly, it's not a metaphor. It's not a euphemism! I knocked on Bradley Cooper's door at midnight!"
Bradley Cooper and Brooke Shields' friendship goes back to 2008, when they met on the sets of the 2008 horror film The Midnight Meat Train.
In a November 2023 interview with Glamour magazine, the actress recalled the time Cooper rushed to her aid when she was having a grand mal seizure. Shields explained that it occurred while she was out having dinner with friends before a performance of her Previously Owned by Brooke Shields show.
While preparing, she drank a lot of water, which resulted in low sodium levels and, subsequently, a seizure. Shields noted that she blacked out, and the next thing she remembered was being inside an ambulance with "guardian angel" Cooper. She told the outlet:
"(I woke) up and Bradley Cooper's going, 'I'm going to go to the hospital with you, Brooke,' and he's holding my hand. And I'm looking at my hand, I'm looking at (his) hand in my hand, and I'm like, 'This is odd and surreal.'
Shields added that the restaurant's sommelier first called her husband, Chris Henchy. It was Chris' assistant who asked Bradley to help out.
During the 2023 Gotham Awards, Cooper told Extra he was "happy" to be "in the right place at the right time."
