Canadian comedian and actor Nathan Fielder shared his experience filming with The Curse co-star Emma Stone. On the May 11 episode of The Rehearsal, Fielder shared that he had to showcase a husband who loved his wife on the black-comedy series. However, he struggled to act and copied other actors from what he had seen.

"In the show, I had to act as a husband who was deeply in love with his wife. But even though I was mimicking the expressions of a man in love, inside my head, I didn't feel that at all for the actress playing my wife. I was basically just copying the expressions of other people in love that I had seen on TV and movies," Fielder stated.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on April 24, 2024, Nathan Fielder stated that he wanted to ensure that the audience finds their pairing acceptable and understands why their characters are a couple in the television series.

"It wasn't so much my acting as just really making sure that people could buy into that relationship and be like, 'I can understand how this couple got to this place and what they might see in each other, or why they might need each other.' You could look at them and be like, 'Why are they together?' But also you start to see, 'Oh, they also couldn't exist apart,'" the actor stated.

Christopher Nolan praised Nathan Fielder's The Curse

In a panel discussion in January 2024, Oscar-winning director Christopher Nolan praised The Curse, saying he had not seen anything like it on television before. Nolan then compared it to drama series like Twin Peaks, The Prisoner, and The Singing Detective, saying the audience could find some resemblances.

"It's an incredible show, and it's unlike anything I've ever seen on television before. There are so few shows that come along that have genuinely no precedence. You're going back to things like Twin Peaks, or The Prisoner, or Dennis Potter's Singing Detective and things like that, so you're in an amazing space, and I can't wait to catch up with the climax," Nolan said.

Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie created and wrote The Curse. The two then joined the cast along with Emma Stone. The satirical comedy thriller follows the newly married Siegel couple, played by Fielder and Stone, who try to conceive while co-starring on the fictional reality TV show, Fliplanthropy.

While discussing the series with The Hollywood Reporter, Nathan Fielder shared that he and Benny Safdie want to create engaging content. While they have no issue with low-effort content, he wants his work to make people think.

"Benny and I really want to make stuff that people can engage with. There's the type of TV where you can sit on the couch and be on your phone half the time, which is fine. I watch that TV, too. But we wanted to try to make something where you have to engage with it to understand it and you're feeling things when you're watching it," Nathan Fielder said.

Nathan Fielder's docu-comedy series The Rehearsal's second season premiered on HBO Max on April 20, 2025.
