Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere is a biographical drama that highlights Bruce Springsteen’s life while working on his 1982 album Nebraska. The movie is directed by Scott Cooper and is based on Warren Zanes' forthcoming 2023 book of the same name. It will be released to theaters on October 24 2025, following its world premiere at the 52nd Telluride Film Festival.

It examines a raw, defining time for Springsteen when he was simultaneously ascending to greater fame as a result of his record The River, while wrestling with personal demons. Rather than sport the major stadium rock hits of the early 80’s, Nebraska was an acoustic album, a collection of folk songs that examined blue collar lives, that he recorded completely on his four track on his bedroom floor in New Jersey.

The film depicts Springsteen wrestling with self doubt, childhood trauma and family turmoil while writing this career defining body of work. The film stars Jeremy Allen White as The Boss and also involved Springsteen as the real person on the set, which allows the film to provide a true emotional portrayal of the man behind the music. In essence it is a story about artistic reinvention, vulnerability, and grit, that encapsulates a rock figure at a crossroads in time.

Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere cast and characters details

The cast adds dimensionality to Springsteen's background. Jeremy Allen White from The Bear portrays Bruce Springsteen with his powerful spirit and complicated feelings. White prepared by learning five Springsteen songs including Born to Run on a 1955 Gibson J 200 guitar sent by Springsteen himself under the guidance of teacher JD Simo over six months of Zoom lessons.

Jeremy Strong takes on Jon Landau, Springsteen’s manager and trusted confidant who grounded him during turbulent times. Paul Walter Hauser portrays Mike Batlan, the recording engineer who supported the minimalist Nebraska sessions. Stephen Graham offers a compelling portrayal of Douglas Springsteen, Bruce’s father who has a difficult relationship with Bruce that provides the emotional center of the film. All the actors bring a very real quality to this intimate glimpse into Springsteen’s life portraying the important characters that helped to shape his music and views.

Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere plot and trailer breakdown

The film centres on Springsteen’s creation of Nebraska, a 1982 album that marked a bold shift from his highnenergy rock sound to raw acoustic storytelling. Recorded alone in a New Jersey bedroom the album captured the struggles of ordinary Americans through songs like Atlantic City and Highway Patrolman.

The plot follows a young Springsteen on the cusp of global stardom after The River as he grapples with fame’s pressures, self doubt and unresolved childhood pain. Flashbacks to his Freehold, New Jersey home recreated with striking accuracy reveal his complex bond with his father, Douglas and the weight of family struggles.

The trailer released by 20th Century Studios shows White’s Springsteen strumming in solitude, performing electrifying live scenes and confronting personal demons. Moments of tension with Graham’s Douglas highlight their fraught dynamic while Cooper’s moody visuals and Springsteen’s on set guidance ensure authenticity. The movie combines moments of reflective calm against the frenetic spirit of Springsteen's music providing a striking view into an artist's spirit.

Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere opens nationwide in theaters on October 24, 2025, distributed by 20th Century Studios.
