The squad in the third episode saw the budget cuts at the Chicago Fire Department, when Pascal informed the team that ‘’Engine 51 is pulled out of service.’’ Amidst the budget cuts and layoffs, the one who got severely affected was Violet’s and Pascal’s friend, Murphy. 

Six firefighters were laid off because of the budget crunch and it has shook the entire FireHouse 51. Due to the layoffs, the squad has to do longer shifts and Murphy’s paramedic ambulance got flipped in the middle of the road due to exhaustion.

Vasque is looking deeper into his father’s case, who is serving his time in prison for allegedly planting evidence. Stella is dealing to connect with Isaiah, the kid who needed a foster home temporarily. But it seems that his ‘’temporary foster-care,’’ is going to be his permanent home as Isaiah’s mother is in a serious condition.

As everyone in the squad is bothered about the sudden layoffs, Violet proposes an idea to deal with it. She asks to ‘’redeploy firgefighter who are trained’’ to reduce operational strain caused by workforce shortages.
