Sony Pictures Television is developing a Norman Lear-produced revival of the classic 1984-92 ABC sitcom that starred Danza as a divorced live-in housekeeper for a divorced advertising executive, played by Judith Light, and Milano as his daughter, according to Deadline. Danza and Milano are on board to reprise their roles as Tony and Samantha Micelli. "Here we go!" tweeted Danza. Milano added: "I’ve wanted to share this for so long and now I can! We feel the time is right to tell the story of where these amazing characters are today. Can’t wait to share their stories with you. So happy." The news comes less than a year after Danza said he'd never do a Who's the Boss? reboot. "First of all, I’ve never been a big fan of these reboots,” he said on Good Day New York in September 2019. “(But) no, can’t reboot (Who’s the Boss?) because we’ve got no Katherine Helmond (who died in February 2019), that’s why not. That’s it.” According to Deadline's Mike Fleming Jr., "the new show will take place 30 years after the events of the original series, centered around former major-league baseball player/retired housekeeper Tony Micelli and his relationship with his daughter Samantha Micelli. She is now a single mother, living in the house the original series was set in. In line with Norman Lear’s classic shows, the new comedy will explore generational differences, as well as opposing world views and parenting styles within the dynamic of a modern family in 2020. Original cast members Judith Light (Angela) and Danny Pintauro (Jonathan) are supportive of the new series and the hope is to find creative ways to work them and their characters into the show. The cast remains very close to this day. The other standout cast member, Katherine Helmond (Mona) passed away February 23, 2019." Who's the Boss? is part of Lear's extensive library. Fleming adds that the revival will "eventually be shopped to buyers with the opportunity to also license the 196 episodes of the original series."
