IOC president Thomas Bach wrote that the IOC has ruled out canceling the Summer Games altogether but is now exploring alternative ways to stage this summer's Tokyo Olympics — including postponement — due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Last month, IOC senior member Dick Pound said the IOC had until late May to decide the fate of the games. Meanwhile, the Canadian Olympic Committee may accelerate the IOC's decision with its decision to pull out of this year's Olympics and Paralympics unless the games are postponed.
