It was announced last week that the iconic magazine will stop publishing new material. While MAD spawned Fox's long-running sketch comedy show MADtv and Cartoon Network's Mad, it first tried to tackle TV at the height of its popularity in 1973. The special, however, struggled to find advertisers. "Nobody wanted to sponsor a show that made fun of products that were advertised on TV, like car manufacturers," said MAD writer Dick DeBartolo.
