AMC Networks has acquired the rights to the author's two bestselling book series, encompassing 18 titles, including Interview with the Vampire, Queen of the Damned, The Vampire Lestat and The Witching Hour. AMC Networks will develop TV movies and TV series based on The Vampire Chronicles and The Lives of the Mayfair Witches. This will mark the first time either book series, which have sold 150 million copies worldwide, will be adapted for television but not film. “It’s always been my dream to see the worlds of my two biggest series united under a single roof so that filmmakers could explore the expansive and interconnected universe of my vampires and witches,” says Anne Rice, who will serve as executive producer on all series along with her son Christopher Rice. “That dream is now a reality, and the result is one of the most significant and thrilling deals of my long career.” Variety, which reported that the Rices were seeking between $30 million and $40 million for the rights to both titles, adds: "The Rices have been trying for years now to develop a series based on The Vampire Chronicles books. Anne announced in 2016 on Facebook that she had re-acquired the theatrical rights to the books with plans to develop them as a TV series. Bryan Fuller then signed on as showrunner in January 2018 but exited soon after. The project was then set up at Hulu beginning in July 2018 but ultimately did not move forward."
