The late celebrity chef wanted to write a "sociopath beach book" with his second published work of fiction, released in 1997. According to Deadline, Gone Bamboo is set on the island of St. Martin and "follows sharpshooting hedonistic assassin Henry Denard, who botches a career-capping hit. Denard must enlist the help of his skilled, stunning, and volatile wife to save their skins, dispatch the villains, and keep the peace — at all costs — in their tropical paradise."
