Barba, who is scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday, faces 10 years in prison after pleading guilty in July to a federal charge of fentanyl possession with intent to distribute. In a court filing pleading for leniency, the 32-year-old Barba blames her experience competing on Season 6 of American Idol for her downward spiral. “Ms. Barba’s sudden move to Hollywood following American Idol ‘was a recipe for disaster,’ and when it came to pass that Ms. Barba was unable to ‘achieve the results she wanted, it was devastating to her,'" according to her filing with the court. “Likewise, Ms. Barba’s mother believes when American Idol happened and ‘the world intruded and interrupted her,’… this is ‘where it all went wrong.'"
