"There’s something about dream logic that’s really fascinating, how it interweaves with narrative," Murai says in discussing his direction on the Donald Glover FX series and on Childish Gambino's "This Is America." Murai says of Atlanta being an experimental show: "When we did the pilot, there were a lot of discussions about which way the show could go. But I knew that my favorite part of the show was the more enigmatic and freewheeling stuff. There’s a strange scene in the pilot where a guy in a bow tie makes Earn take a bite of his sandwich. It was always on the chopping block with the network because it didn’t really serve a narrative purpose. But that was our favorite scene." ALSO: "This is America" and Atlanta are two parts of a whole.
