DuVernay is teaming with Arrow executive producer Jill Blankenship on Naomi, based on the DC Comics superhero of the same name that debuted in 2019 from writers Brian Michael Bendis and David F. Walker and illustrator Jamal Campbell. The potential series follows Naomi, a teen girl, on "a journey from her small northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse. When a supernatural event shakes her hometown to the core, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins, and what she discovers will challenge everything we believe about our heroes." Naomi has "energy-based powers as well as an ability to transform into superpowered form that granted her incredible strength and other abilities." When the Naomi comic book was announced, DC wrote: "Naomi may be the most remarkable hero to hit the comic stands in quite some time...but it has nothing to do with powers or abilities."
