The 2011 British documentary series that the BBC co-produced with Discovery included a scene of the Korowai people of Papua New Guinea constructing treehouses high in the jungle canopy. That scene, it turns out, was staged by the tribal people “for the benefit of overseas programme makers," the BBC now says. Human Planet aired in six parts on Discovery Channel in 2011. The revelation came from a new BBC2 documentary on the making of the series. “The BBC has reviewed a sequence in Human Planet depicting this and found that the portrayal of the tribe moving into the treehouse as a real home is not accurate," the BBC said in a statement.
