Unlike the other Louis CK-produced comedies that have cut ties to him (Baskets, One Mississippi), the scandalized comedian was directly involved in Better Things, either writing or co-writing every episode this season. It’s still Pamela Adlon’s show in just about every aspect, and it would be wrong to dismiss it because of Louis CK’s involvement, says Alan Sepinwall. But he adds: “Even if CK isn’t involved going forward, his role in these first two seasons, and in helping Better Things become as great as we’ve seen it be, can’t just be waved away, or even easily forgotten.” Sepinwall says that hopefully it won’t be an issue in Season 3: “When the series returns next year, this will be less of a dilemma, and it’ll be interesting to see how, or if, it feels different without its co-creator involved,” says Sepinwall.
