"My wing is feeling a little sore, but it'll give my body an extra protective boost that keeps me and others healthy," the Sesame Street character tweeted Saturday. The tweet was widely denounced by Republicans, most notably Sen. Ted Cruz, who called the tweet “Government propaganda … for your 5 year old!” in a tweet on Sunday. Cruz continued ranting about Big Bird on Monday, retweeting tweets attacking Big Bird getting the vaccine. Meanwhile, Fox News contributor Lisa Boothe accused the Muppet of "brainwashing children," while Newsmax host and former Trump adviser Steve Cortes slammed the announcement as "evil" propaganda. In response, the Muppet Wiki Twitter account pointed out that Big Bird got a measles shot in 1972, a clip that has been viewed more than 2 million times.
