“I was sh*tcanned by ABC, you were sh*tcanned by NBC,” Maher told Kelly in her Real Time debut, referring to his 9/11 controversy that led to ABC canceling Politically Incorrect and her blackface comments that resulted in her ouster from Today. “When that happened to you, I was angry for you, honestly.” Kelly responded by saying: "My own take on it is the country's going through something right now. Marginalized people are rising up and trying to find positions at the table. The difference is, how do you do it? As a woman, she said she in part she understood that experience, adding: "Do we do it with grace and humanity and understanding that people make mistakes...? We can't expect a perfect score of any person."
