The problem, as one network insider put it to Indiewire, is that Nielsen doesn't have any "real competition," so it has no motivation to improve itself. “What is there to turn around?” the person rhetorically asked. “They’re the currency. This is not a compliment: Nielsen is the Kleenex of ratings systems. It’s the brand name. It’s a function of having a multi-decade lead in being able to get into homes.”
