About 22 million watched Monday's rematch between Georgia and Alabama, up from last year's pandemic-fueled worst-ever 18.7 million. But it was still down from the pre-pandemic 2019 game, which had nearly 27 million viewers and significantly down from the first College Football Championship playoff game in 2014 that attracted 34.6 million viewers. As The Athletic notes, however, Monday's game was "the most-watched event on cable since LSU's win over Clemson at the end of the 2019 season and the most-viewed non-NFL sporting event on any network in the last two years."
