The standup comic and magician, born John Edward Szeles, was a fixture on TV during the standup boom of the 1980s and 1990s, describing himself as the “Freddy Krueger of comedy." He was also known for appearing on Criss Angel's mid-2000s reality show Mindfreak. In 2019, The Amazing Johnathan was the subject of the Hulu's The Amazing Johnathan Documentary, which followed his attempted a comeback after receiving a terminal diagnosis. “Johnathan Szeles (Amazing Johnathan ) has passed away at around 11:30 pm 2/22/22,” fellow standup comic Penny Wiggins, 60, posted on Facebook. “My heart is broken. One of my best friends, one of the funniest humans I’ve ever met. I loved him so very much and will never forget this wonderful, amazing, kind, funny, great person.”
