The Showtime docuseries wanted to make its reality portrayal of couples therapy look like the real thing. So producers built a therapist's office, a waiting room and a hallway that opened to the street. To film, they wanted to avoid cameras in the room and they also didn't want to use two-way reflective glass. So they used a 45-degree angled glass so filming equipment wouldn't be seen. “Essentially, the mirrors are at an angle so they reflect what they see,” explains production designer Nora Mendis. When the audience sees a bookshelf or a strip of wallpaper in therapist Orna Guralnik’s office, half of what they’re looking at may be a mirrored image, carefully disguised into the set.
