The BBC2 comedy created by Steven Moffat about six singles -- three males and three females -- drew comparisons to Friends when it premiered on May 12, 2000 (and later on BBC America). But Coupling, which aired for four seasons through 2004, had its own cult following thanks to hilarious writing and stars Jack Davenport, Gina Bellman, Sarah Alexander, Richard Coyle, Kate Isitt and Ben Miles. That cult following led NBC to create an American version in 2003 that was quickly canceled after what Moffat describes as a terrible experience with the network and then-NBC boss Jeff Zucker.
