Lost and Hawaii Five-O alum Kim and the former Scandal star Goldwyn are teaming for the six-episode second season of The Hot Zone, focusing on the 2001 anthrax attacks that caused panic weeks after 9/1. Kim will portray Matthew Ryker, "an FBI agent with a specialty in microbiology. Just three weeks after 9/11, he risks his career in an attempt to convince his bosses that the country is facing a different form of attack." Goldwyn will take on the role of Bruce Ivans, "a microbiologist who becomes embroiled in the hunt to find the anthrax killer. While he initially works closely with the FBI, Ivins' growing instability and paranoia give way to deeper, more disturbing revelations." Showrunners Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson said of casting the two big TV stars: "Tony Goldwyn and Daniel Dae Kim have such tremendous depth as actors and are the perfect duo to dive into the twists and turns of the deadly attacks that sent the country into panic." The Hot Zone: Anthrax is expected to begin filming in Toronto in the coming months. Kim tweeted of the news: "Hardly the biggest news given what’s going on in the world today, But after 31 years of working in TV, this is my first series lead."
