Darrell Hammond says “I just started crying” when he lost SNL’s Donald Trump role

The loss of the role to Alec Baldwin so affected Hammond that he moved from New York City to Los Angeles, where he records the announcing of each SNL opening remotely. “I just started crying,” he says. “In front of everyone. I couldn’t believe it. I was in shock, and I stayed in shock for a long time. Everything wiped out. The brand, me, what I do. Corporate appearances canceled. It was a hell of a shock, and all of it was apparent to me in one breath. That ends me.” Nowadays, Hammond has come to terms with losing the gig, admitting that his Trump was too middle of the road.
