In a wide-ranging 94-minute interview on Wednesday's Stern show, Letterman told Stern that Jerry Seinfeld’s “little drinking coffee show” served as an inspiration for his six-episode Netflix series. “God forbid Jerry can’t do his show, Comedians Drinking Coffee in Cars, just give it to me. It’s the only new good idea in the new generation of multi-platform television productions.” Letterman also talked about iconic guest appearances, including Joaquin Phoenix and Andy Kaufman. It was Letterman’s first in-studio visit with Stern since surprising the shock jock on his 50th birthday in 2004. Letterman said he won't shave the beard for his Netflix show and plans to keep it until he dies. Dave also said he plans to visit Jimmy Kimmel Live in October, likely when Kimmel brings his show back to Brooklyn. PLUS: Stern’s first three Letterman visits from 1984 were recently posted on YouTube.
