Discovery recently expanded to include Scripps Networks channels like HGTV and Food Network. That will help bolster plans to debut a streaming service that costs $6 to $8 a month that will offer an alternative to the scripted-heavy streaming services like Netflix and Amazon. “We see the media business as two sides — one side is scripted series and movies, and we’ve moved away from that,” says Discovery CEO David Zaslav. “We see what we have as everything else,” he said. “We have great content. We own it all globally… We have a lot of scale. We have a lot of strength.”
