Fox’s TV division is one of the most prolific content producers, as The New York Times notes, and the deal means that Disney will acquire ownership of shows like This Is Us, The Simpsons, American Horror Story, Homeland, New Girl, The Americans and Modern Family. “Disney hopes that the Fox television juggernaut can supercharge its ambitions by producing original series for the services and providing access to a catalog of older offerings,” reports The Times. “Fox would also contribute its stake in Hulu, the streaming service that shows ABC content and original programming like The Handmaid’s Tale, giving Disney a majority share.” The deal will also give ESPN Fox’s regional sports networks, including the New York Yankees-carrying YES Network, which will bolster ESPN, in addition to FX and the National Geographic Channel.
