The potential prequel series to the 2017 Disney film is designed as a limited six-episode musical event that gives Evans' Gaston and Gad's LeFou an origin story, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Once Upon a Time creators Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz co-created the prequel series along with Gad, with all three poised to write the scripts and serve as showrunners. According to The Hollywood Reporter's Lesley Goldberg, the project is in the early development stage, adding that it "will take place well before the events of the film and also expand the Beauty and the Beast universe. No other stars from the film — like Emma Watson and Dan Stevens — are currently attached, though sources say there is a possibility that they could pop in for a guest spot." Goldberg also reports the trio came up with the idea while working on Disney+'s scrapped Muppets Live Another Day comedy series.
