In response to Fallon's updated take on Dylan's “The Times They Are A-Changin’,” conservative outlets accused him of ripping Trump and "trying to keep up with the left-wing activism of his late-night competitors." But Tonight Show executive producer Mike DiCenzo, who spent the past two months reworking the 1964 Dylan classic, says the post-Super Bowl show song isn’t the start of a new political era for Fallon. “I don’t think it’s funny,” he says of the new version. “But I also don’t see it as political.” The new version may reference the hot-button issues of the Trump era, but “in the same way that the original is just kind of more about ‘there are movements going on,’ this is addressing them," he says. "It’s just an update, really.” DiCenzo adds: “The message of the original song still kind of makes sense. I just updated it with more specific references to all the stuff that’s been going on.”
