John Wick franchise creator Derek Kolstad has been tapped by the Hasbro-owned eOne to pen and develop a pitch for a live-action series based on the Dungeons & Dragons universe, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The news comes four days after eOne revealed plans to turn the board game Risk into a TV series from House of Cards creator Beau Willimon. The news of a TV series comes as Paramount and eOne are developing a Dungeons & Dragons feature film starring Chris Pine. "Affectionately referred to by fans as D&D, the game is known for its wars, treasure hunts, campaigns, camaraderie, and reversals of fortune, all in a setting that combines humans, elves, orcs and hundreds of other creatures," explains The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit. "The game famously uses multisided dice in gameplay to further the imaginary story and is overseen by a host known as the Dungeon Master. Launched in 1974, it was popularized in the 1980s. Its popularity has returned in recent years and, in fact, has soared anew during the pandemic, and found new fans thanks to videogame play and livestreams on Twitch and YouTube." Dungeons & Dragons was previously adapted as a CBS animated series for three seasons, from 1983 to 1985.
