The scam artist linked a lucrative deal with Netflix for Rhimes to adapt her story as a TV series. But New York's Attorney General's Office has stepped in and evoked the state's “Son of Sam Law” to try and convince a judge that all of the profits should go to Sorokin's victims. The "Son of Sam Law" was named after notorious serial killer David Berkowitz, who made national headlines for his shocking New York City murder spree in the late 1970s. The law was passed in 1977, the year he was captured, to prevent him from profiting from his crimes.
