Dave Grohl and his band are set to return to the Video Music Awards after a 15-year absence. Adapted from MTV’s European Music Video Awards (EMAs), the Global Icon Award is given to artists who have “left an indelible mark on the musical landscape and continues to influence, inspire and evolve,” according to an MTV statement. Past winners include Queen, Eminem and the late Whitney Houston. Foo Fighters' award comes just six weeks before the band is set to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Oct. 30.
