What’s bizarre, says Alan Sepinwall, is that the Star Trek-inspired series employs many Trek veterans, yet it just feels out of place. The Orville, he says, is “an hour-long drama that basically is 1990s Star Trek — or, rather, a mediocre facsimile of that era’s lamest Trek components, and with MacFarlane (who also created the series) as the lead instead of Patrick Stewart.” PLUS: MacFarlane’s acting ability isn’t up to snuff for an hourlong drama, it’s the first real stinker of the season, and it’s an hour-long show for no real reason.
