GLAAD’s annual Where We Are on TV report found that of 775 series regular characters who have appeared or will appear on scripted programming on broadcast TV between May 2021 and June 2022, 92 characters are LGBTQ+. That amounts to 11.9%. GLAAD also found that an additional 49 recurring characters are LGBTQ+, for a total of 141 LGBTQ+ characters on broadcast TV. Also, for the first time, lesbian TV characters made up the majority of LGBTQ+ TV characters. GLAAD also found there are 42 regular and recurring transgender characters -- 20 trans women, 14 trans men and eight nonbinary trans people -- across broadcast, cable and streaming, up from 29 last year. Of the eight major streaming services, GLAAD counted 245 LGBTQ+ series regular characters and 113 LGBTQ+ recurring characters.
