The National Geographic biographical series has been formally renewed for a third season, focusing on Mary Shelley. Genius executive producer Brian Grazer said in January that producers were "zeroing in" to find a woman “who is a genius and iconic in herself" for Season 3. The first two seasons chronicled the lives of two European male geniuses, Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso. Season 3 will revolve around the British author, who lived from 1797 to 1851 and is best known for writing the gothic novel Frankenstein, which spawned many TV and movie adaptations. “Mary Shelley has inspired countless filmmakers with her tale of the wretch brought to life by science gone wrong, but very few have fully captured her insightful reflections on society in the myth she left behind,” executive producer Ron Howard said in a statement. “Few know of her struggles due to gender inequities, her additional writings, her influence on other historically significant individuals and society at large."
