"Any nomination from that organization this year is tainted," a prominent publicity head working with a major studio contender tells EW of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's announcement of its 2022 nominees as it recovers from scandal. Indeed, the nominated actors have kept quiet. Another awards campaign mastermind adds that this year is different: "You focus on laurels that give pedigree and bring attention in a positive way. Given the conversation right now, (the Globes don't) feel positive. (They don't) feel like forward momentum." Meanwhile, an award-winning showrunner told Deadline this morning's announcement was "a joke, a pathetic attempt to gain some credibility."

Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood and other TV outlets ignored the Golden Globe nominations announcement: Among local outlets, only KNBC had a camera crew in place to cover the nominations at the Beverly Hilton early this morning. “I’ve covered this event for almost 30 years, and I didn’t quite know what to expect,” Inside Edition chief correspondent Jim Moret told Variety. “But this is less than what I expected. Even though the event is streaming, I still expected to see some network coverage, some local news coverage. I suspect that they’re just taking the streaming. But to me, it made a statement that people weren’t here.” Hollywood Foreign Press Association president Helen Hoehne blamed the pandemic for the low-key turnout: “Due to COVID restrictions, we always said we would stream and actually a lot of people, I think, tuned in via streaming, which I think is normal,” she told Variety. “This is a special year as well. Unfortunately, we’re still working through COVID and the new variants so we have to all be careful. So I’m actually very surprised that as many people have showed up today in person.”
How did the HFPA get Snoop Dogg to announce the nominations?: "We thought we would try something different this year because this has been an unusual year for us," said HFPA president Helen Hoehne. "He’s a very kind individual and a very special person. We really love him. I admire all of the art that he has done, he’s a great artist. He kindly agreed to do this, so that’s how we got together. We’re very grateful to him." Hoehne added that the HFPA hasn't decided whether to invite nominees to its Jan. 9 non-televised ceremony.
Christine Baranski receives rare recognition for The Good Fight, while Impeachment: American Crime Story's cast was snubbed: Impeachment is the only nominated series this year that didn't have an actor who was nominated for a Golden Globe. Meanwhile, Baranski received her first Golden Globes nomination since Cybill in the late 1990s. While Baranski earned Emmy nominations for her Diane Lockhart role on The Good Wife, she's never been nominated for a major award for The Good Fight, as Variety notes. Variety also points to Squid Game star Oh Yeong-su's nomination for best supporting actor in a drama series. The elderly actor's nomination is considered unusual because Netflix didn't campaign for him -- he wasn't among the Squid Game stars who visited Hollywood last month.
