Pompeo, whose blockbuster two-year $20 million deal was set to expire in May 2020, has agreed to extend her contract by one more year, paving the way for Grey's Anatomy's renewal for Seasons 16 and 17. The two-year pickup will allow Grey's Anatomy to extend its record-breaking run as the longest-running primetime medical drama in TV history after surpassing ER earlier this season. The two-season pickup will also mean Grey's Anatomy will surpass ER in number of seasons. ER ended 10 years with Season 15. Earlier this year, Pompeo told TVLine she wasn't sure if she'd re-sign. “I’m contracted through Season 16,” she said in January. “And beyond that… I don’t really know. I take it day-by-day."
