The pay cable network beat Netflix in a "fierce bidding war" to adapt Parasite, Bong Joon Ho's acclaimed South Korean Palme d’Or- and Golden Globe-winning film on class warfare that is expected to be a major Oscar contender next month, according to The Hollywood Reporter. HBO is still in talks to adapt Parasite, which has earned $130 million globally, but the plan is for Bong and Adam McKay to write the English-language adaptation. According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Parasite followed the poor but cunning Kim family as they ingratiated themselves into the lives of their wealthy employers, the Park family. The relationship between the two clans went through several twists and ultimately ended up having deadly consequences. It is unclear if the limited series will be some sort of follow-up to the movie or an English-language remake."
