Issa Rae will be back for a fifth season of her HBO comedy, HBO announced this afternoon. The news comes less than three weeks after Insecure returned for Season 4. “We’re thrilled that Issa, (showrunner) Prentice (Penny), and the whole Insecure team will be getting back together for a fifth season,” said Amy Gravitt, executive vice president of HBO programming. “As we laugh and cringe with recognition, their stories make us all feel a little less alone in the world.” As The Hollywood Reporter notes, the renewal further cements ties between Rae and HBO. In addition to Insecure, Rae is starring in HBO's The Dolls, a 1980s-set Cabbage Patch dolls limited series, with Laura Dern. She also produces HBO's A Black Lady Sketch Show and is developing with Dwayne Johnson the HBO pro wrestling series Tre Cnt.
