Last year, Netflix topped HBO for the first time in the Emmy race, 112 nominations to 108. This year, HBO earned a record 137 nominations, easily beating Netflix's 117. HBO's previous single-season record was 126 nominations in 2015. HBO saw a massive number of nominations for Game of Thrones (32), followed by Chernobyl (19), Barry (17), Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (9), True Detective (9), Veep (9), Deadwood: The Movie (8), Sharp Objects (8) and Succession (5). Game of Thrones' nominations include Emilia Clarke and Kit Harington's first-ever nominations for lead drama actress and lead actor, respectively. Game of Thrones also earned a lot of love in the supporting acting categories. Supporting drama actress nominees include Maisie Williams, Lena Headey, Gwendoline Christine and Sophie Turner. Supporting drama actor nominees include Alfie Allen, Peter Dinklage and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau -- Dinklage has been nominated for every season of Game of Thrones. Additionally, Game of Thrones broke the record for most nominations by any program in a single season. NYPD Blue previously held that record with 26 nominations in 1994.
