The Kate Bosworth-led series has been described as the worst show on Netflix. But one of its executive producers is noted playwright and screenwriter Neil LaBute. "It’s in that context we must look at The I-Land," and LaBute's past work on the behavior of toxic, misogynistic men, including on In the Company of Men, says John Doyle. "The characters immediately begin playing power-games with others, making this less a half-baked riff on Lost than it might be a perverse take on Survivor," says Doyle. "It’s just that in The I-Land, some characters have a knife or an axe at their disposal and you know they are going to be wielded against other characters."
