"I was on Saturday Night Live at the time, and I didn’t really know what to do," he says of the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001. "I was fortunate to have funny friends and comedians. But I looked to the late night hosts to see what they were talking about, and how they were reacting to everything. I watched Conan O’Brien, Jay Leno and David Letterman was the one who really got to me. Remember where he said – I’m paraphrasing – 'there’s only one requirement of any of us, and that is to be courageous. Because courage defines all other human behavior.' And then he said, 'I believe pretending to be courageous is just as good as the real thing.' I never forgot that line."
