Fallon’s mother, Gloria Fallon, died in a New York City hospital on Saturday at age 68, one day after Fallon canceled a Tonight Show taping to be by her side. “Jimmy was at his mother’s bedside, along with her loved ones, when she passed away at NYU Langone Medical Center in NYC,” said a family spokesperson. “Our prayers go out to Jimmy and his family as they go through this tough time.” In a June interview with Howard Stern, Fallon revealed that his mom was once a nun. In May, Fallon jokingly tweeted, "My mom and I were talking on the phone for the third time that day and she actually said, ‘We don’t talk enough.'" Earlier Saturday, Fallon bandleader Questlove appeared to offer condolences while being swarmed by paparazzi in Los Angeles. The death of Fallon’s mother comes less than two months after fellow NBC late-night host Carson Daly lost his mom. There’s no word yet on how Fallon’s mom’s death will impact The Tonight Show's taping schedule. Fallon had all-new episodes scheduled for the coming week. UPDATE: The Tonight Show has canceled this week's tapings and Stephen Colbert has offered his condolences.
