“To me, the Doctor is a pillar of hope and striving for brightness and inclusion," said Whittaker, making her Comic-Con debut this afternoon. Showrunner Chris Chibnall also used "pillar of hope" to describe Whittaker's take on The Doctor. “It’s the Doctor you’ve known and loved, with just a fresh take,” he said. “The Doctor is still very much The Doctor. But we need a pillar of hope, and that pillar of hope is Jodie Whittaker.” The actress went on to describe her take on The Doctor: "I feel like this Doctor requires a lot of energy, a lot of childish wonder… I’m quite fidgety. There’s not a lot of stillness I’m afraid," she said. Chibnall recalled writing three "special scenes" for the new Doctor's audition, and Whittaker had the right energy for the part. “Fresh and very funny. It was very emotional,” Chibnall said.
