Variety reports the musician and close friend of Watch What Happens Live's Andy Cohen is nearing a deal to host his own talk show based on BBC's long-running music-based talk show Later with Jools Holland, which premiered in 1992. Later With John Mayer would feature "performance segments as well as interviews with musicians, artists and other cultural figures in a setting designed to look like an after-hours club for musicians," according to Variety, which adds: "The series would run as a weekly offering on Paramount+, ViacomCBS’ streaming platform which was relaunched March 4. The plan is to have specials derived from the show’s performance segments air periodically on CBS as well. There is also talk of tie-ins with the Grammy Awards, which are aired on CBS." Variety notes that CBS previously wanted Mayer to have his own show in 2009. He even guest-hosted The Late Late Show in 2015 following Craig Ferguson's departure.
