The Oscar-winning 12 Years a Slave Oscar screenwriter and American Crime creator has boarded the untitled musical drama project that was announced last summer. The potential series "centers on an emotionally complex family story that spans generations and threatens the fabric of the community in present-day Milwaukee," per Deadline. Ridley, a Milwaukee native, replaces original writer Kyle Jarrow, who originally set it in modern-day and 1959 Detroit. Ridley will serve as executive producer with Keys and the Oscar-, Tony- and Grammy-winning La La Land team of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
