Galecki, who co-starred in the 1989 holiday classic National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, will serve as executive producer on The Griswolds, a half-hour single-camera comedy Vacation spinoff in development at HBO Max exploring the daily lives of the Griswold family in modern-day suburban Chicago. Former The Middle and Scrubs executive producer Tim Hobart will serve as writer and showrunner. It's not yet known if anybody from the Vacation franchise -- such as Chevy Chase, Beverly D'Angelo, Randy Quaid or, more recently, Ed Helms -- will have a role in The Griswolds or if there will be an entirely new cast. As The Hollywood Reporter notes, "The Griswolds is the latest example of media conglomerates like HBO Max parent company WarnerMedia harnessing the power of the company's deep well of intellectual property to bolster one of their own brands."
