Netflix has officially announced that Lucifer will return for Season 6, its final season, one year after announcing its renewal for a supersized fifth and final season. "the devil made us do it," tweeted Lucifer's Twitter account. "#lucifer will return for a sixth and final season. like, FINAL final." Netflix has been interested in ordering a sixth season since February, with Tom Ellis striking a deal to reprise his role three weeks ago. An episode count for Season 6 was not announced. According to TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich, Netflix was likely interested in extending Lucifer's lifespan after "it proved to be a helluva binge, so much so that its Season 5 pickup came just 29 days after its Season 4 release — meaning, within Netflix’s critical 'first month' timeframe. Lucifer Season 4 also ranked as the No. 1 binge, as measured by TV Time, for a record eight straight weeks, on its way to becoming the app’s the most-binged program of 2019." Lucifer also found a high-profile fan in Kelly Clarkson, who lobbied to save the show on her daytime talk show last September. "Here's what happens. I get on a show late in the game, and it's amazing, and then people end up going, 'Oh, it's over, and it's canceled,' and I'm like, 'why?' and I'm mad about it," she said at the time.
